ABOUT KELILAH

Kelilah is a Sydney-based singer-songwriter who makes music as a creative outlet for navigating complex emotions and experiences. She uses a fusion of jazz, soul, and R&B to craft songs that inspire understanding, challenge perspectives, and create a culture of acceptance. Her artistry is shaped by music legends such as Donny Hathaway, Nina Simone, Chet Baker, and Ella Fitzgerald, whose song Misty introduced her to jazz in 2014.

Immersed in music and composition since childhood, Kelilah has refined her craft through years of music theory, piano and vocal training, and dedicated practice. Kelilah’s early musical journey was marked by a series of formative experiences that laid the foundation for her identity as an artist. Since 2015, Kelilah has been involved in church choirs and acting as the lead vocalist at multiple praise nights. From 2017 to 2020, opportunities to perform at venues including the Sydney Town Hall arose through her role as an alto in the NSW Public Schools Senior Singers, an audition based SATB choir to which she was a dedicated member of and attended weekly rehearsals.

Kelilah landed the lead role of Ariel in The Little Mermaid Jr. in 2018 —a role that introduced her to the world of theatre and enabled her to develop skills in acting, collaboration, and musical storytelling. She also attended several audition based vocal camps including Popular Music Camp in 2017 and the Arts Unit’s Solo Vocal Camps in 2018-2020. These camps refined her performance, vocal technique, and opened doors to performance opportunities at The Brass Monkey and the prestigious Sydney Opera House. These early experiences helped shape her into a confident and compelling performer who is deeply connected to her craft.

Kelilah continued her musical studies at the University of Wollongong from 2020-2024, completing a Bachelor of Creative Arts majoring in music. During the degree, she built a network of talented musicians and producers whom she continues to work with on musical projects. Kelilah’s academic journey provided her with the knowledge and skills to organise ensembles for rehearsals, create quality recordings, and performances, With the guidance of lecturers and tutors, Kelilah was able to develop her artistry as a professional musician, and create reliable strategies to ensure creative productivity.

With her rich, jazzy vocals and sophisticated musicality, Kelilah brings a timeless elegance to each performance. Whether in intimate clubs, upscale events, or weddings, she creates an unforgettable atmosphere, leaving audiences enthralled by the depth and emotion of her performance.
