ABOUT KELILAH

Kelilah is a Sydney-based singer-songwriter and recording artist whose soulful voice carries the timeless elegance of jazz. She was born in London to an Australian mother and a Jamaican-British father. Growing up, Kelilah was surrounded by an assortment of musical influences, deepening her appreciation for the art. This led her to study music at university, where she further developed her craft and connected with musicians she continues to collaborate with. 

Blending jazz, soul, and R&B, Kelilah draws lyrical inspiration from her own experiences and those of others, using songwriting as a creative outlet to navigate complex emotions and explore the diverse human experience. She is influenced by legends like Donny Hathaway, Nina Simone, Chet Baker, and Ella Fitzgerald, whose rendition of Misty first introduced her to jazz in 2014. 

Kelilah’s artistic identity has been shaped by years of piano and vocal training, music theory, composition, and dedicated practice. Her position in audition-based choirs and ensembles allowed her to perform at venues such as the Sydney Town Hall and the Sydney Opera House. These experiences taught her to bring depth and emotional nuance to every performance, from intimate jazz clubs to upscale events. 

Through her music, Kelilah inspires understanding and challenges perspectives by encouraging listeners to connect with experiences beyond their own. Her emotional storytelling and expressive musicality creates an enchanting atmosphere for listeners to connect with the stories and emotions behind each song.
